Family Law Firm Serving Madison, Macoupin, Bond, Greene, Jersey, Calhoun Counties In Illinois
The Law Firm of MillerKing LLC represents clients in family law cases and related matters. Our team of lawyers and staff members work on behalf of each client to discuss, evaluate, and achieve our client’s goals. We understand that family law cases are complex, emotional, stressful, and time-consuming. We acknowledge that people experience some of the greatest pain, worst difficulties, and hardships during a separation, divorce, or custody battle. Our lawyers and team members are trained, experienced, and strive to provide quality, ethical, and effective legal representation.
Our lawyers have real-world, legal, and courtroom experience to evaluate each client’s unique situation, offer competent legal advice based upon years of experience, and zealously represent our client’s best interests. Each family law case presents unique issues and challenges – which are handled in a confidential, ethical, and professional manner. Our attorneys and staff work to safeguard our client’s rights as well as promote reasonable and rational solutions to resolve conflict and division, such as property and debts are divided equitably, child support and spousal support are set fairly, and that parenting arrangements or plans are made appropriately.
Often in a family law case, the most important, emotional, and sensitive issue is the well-being, health, and safety of a child or children. Our lawyers and staff communicate and work with each to client to promote substantively that certain and defined actions are being taken to protect the children’s best interests, preserve family relationships, and minimize the chaos and disruption. We search and seek practical, reasonable, and legal solutions in all family law cases and matters.
The goal is to resolve the case or matter effectively, professionally, and ethically in our client’s best interest in order to finalize the conflict and allow for the healing process to begin in each client’s life. The client’s and child’s/children’s health, safety, and well-being are of top priority whenever advising the client on the next steps in the process.
The resolution may include a fair and reasonable settlement agreement between the parties in which both sides decide how to resolve the conflict or case. If a settlement agreement is not reached, the objective is to zealously advocate for each client in court through the litigation process. Another option entails mediation whereby each party has an opportunity to provide input into any final decision or agreement.
During an initial confidential meeting, our lawyers will quote a fair and reasonable fee generally in the form of an advanced security retainer. The lawyers keep track of and charge their time at an hourly rate with billing statements generated at the end of each month. Our lawyers and staff use a transparent billing system, which allows each client to know and understand the nature and cost of legal services.
The choice of a lawyer is a significant and vital decision.
First, it is prudent to visit a lawyer’s website to obtain basic information. A well-designed website should provide contact information, biographical information, and basic content in an ethical and understandable manner.
Second, it is important to schedule an initial meeting or consultation. Some consultations may be handled by phone, but many initial meetings or consultations should be conducted in person. By visiting a lawyer’s office, the potential client may interact with staff, evaluate the law firm’s organization, professionalism, and hospitality, and assess the potential attorney-client relationship first-hand. Do you feel comfortable? Is the law firm professional? Is the environment welcoming? Do you believe that your case will be handled competently and with open lines of communication? Did the lawyer listen? An open and honest meeting in a confidential setting may alleviate or lessen fears, anxieties, stress, and unknowns.
Finally, the potential client and lawyer must agree on timelines, expectations, fees, costs, and acknowledge that no outcome is guaranteed or promised. The potential client and lawyer must understand and acknowledge each person’s role and obligation within the attorney-client relationship.
